Pickleball

Where tennis meets ping pong, pickleball is always an intense part of the Short Games. Pickleball is played to 15 in the championships and 11 in the consolations. You can only score on your team's serve. There are new important rules to understand before going into the games this year.

FAQ

  • ​How do you decide who serves first? And what side do you serve from?

    • Roll dice - highest number serves first

    • You start on the side according to your score, and only your score. Even scores are served from the right side, odd scores are served from the left side

    • When the game starts, the serving team only has one player serve from the right side, after that each player on a team will serve 

    • Important reminder about when you are serving, the ball must bounce on your side before you can take it in the air

    • Both feet must be behind the line while serving

  • How is Pickleball scored?​

    • Your team can only score on the points your team serves

    • Up to 15 in the championships, 11 in the consolations, always win by 2

    • Remember to say the score before each point, always start with your team's score first whether you are winning or losing

    • Pickleball is a yard game so you can receive up to 16 points for your overall team score - NCAA Scoring: 1st-16pts, 2nd-12pts, 3rd-10pts, 4th-8 pts, 5th -6pts, 6th-5 pts, 7th-4pts, 8th-3pts and 1 point for all teams that participate​

  • If the ball hits the line is it in or out?​

    • Lines are always in​

    • Important reminder: DO NOT take a ball in the air if your feet are in "the kitchen" you will lose the point. You can not step into the kitchen if you are taking the ball in the air

  • Can I bring my own paddle?​

    • Absolutely. You can also use some of the other paddles as long as the owner is not using their paddle.​

  • What if there is a dispute in the game?

    • All disputes will be handled by the commissioner, Will Short. He has final say, if he is involved in the game Mack Short will make the call.​
