2022 marked the 9th annual Short Family Games. A truly epic games. 16 teams competed in 6 yard games, 5 challenges, 4 bar games, 1 epic relay, and 5 minute to win it games. D1 defended their title, once again, as Short Family Games 2022 Champions. This marks their 3rd consecutive championship in a row and 4th win overall. D1 scored a whopping 163 points. The next closest teams were more than 30 points out, giving D1 a commanding lead. Up The Hill claimed their spot as runner up for the 2nd year in a row, but Mon-Stars joined them in a tie...each team tallying a total of 132 points.
The 2022 games saw some first time competitors including Josh and Jolene Raymond as Kingpins, Sam and Dan Wunderlich as the Wunderdogs, Emma partnered Jordon Rothers for his return to the games as the Mother Cluckers, Soren partnered Lilli in Goose & Maverick, and Cash Raymond rose to the occasion to join Shake & Bake.
Players checked in at 8:30am, sang the national anthem, held a prayer circle for Shelby and Cortez, and completed the 50/50 raffle...Sam and Dan Wunderlich took home $140! Then the games began with the Kubb and Crossnet yard games and Marksman and Around the World Challenges.
A few game changes were made in 2022. Volleyball changed to Crossnet, a mix between Volleyball and Foursquare. The strength & fortitude relay included a new chance at a woman's horn, pushing the kubota, carrying 70 lb sandbags, and a bow and arrow. Ping Pong and Beer Pong were added as bar games while Dagz and Corks and Cups were removed. Axe Throw moved from a yard game to a Challenge. Minute to win it's featured Bouncer, Pencil Catch, Flippy Cup, Horseplay, and Cup Ballet. The games wrapped around 3am and awardwinners were announced.
Every year the commissioner takes feedback seriously, but it is important to remember that ultimately the Short Family Games are a labor of his love, and he has the final say in how things go.
